Jean-Michel Basquiat was not just a painter and a graphic designer. He was also an actor, poet, musician and DJ. He plays the clarinet and the synthesizer in the band Gray. Jazz and blues play an important role in his work. He was one of the first protagonists of the hip-hop movement alongside Fab 5 FreddyToxic et Rammelzee. Under his own label tartown, he produced the record "Beat Bop" in 1983, for which he also designed the cover.
