In February 2014, JR presented the Unframed project in Baden-Baden. He pasted archival images related to the city's history onto the walls, thus illustrating the history of Franco-German friendship in the urban space. The city's citizens were invited beforehand to participate and provide period photographs and other personal documents. Baden-Baden played a pivotal role in the relationship between Germany and France. The hesitant rapprochement between the two countries, hereditary enemies for decades, becomes literally palpable through the collages.
