On September 20, 1979, at the Palladium in New York, the photographer Penny Smith, which follows the Clash on tour, immortalizes Paul Simonon smashing his bass against the stage. The day after the concert, Joe Strummer chose this photo to illustrate the cover of London Calling, which would be released three months later, on December 14 of the same year, and which would become an essential symbol of rock imagery.
